The Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., has reaffirmed the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a transparent, inclusive, and credible national convention ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Goronyo made this known while representing the Chairman of the APC National Convention Coordination Committee Secretariat (NCCCS), the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, at a meeting of the Committee held on Thursday, at the Kano State Government Lodge in Abuja.
According to a statement on Friday, signed his Special Assistant on Media, Abdullahi Mohammed, speaking on behalf of the Committee, the Minister emphasised that the APC is laying a solid legal and institutional foundation to ensure a seamless and rule-based convention process.
According to him, the party has constituted a high-powered legal committee tasked with ensuring strict compliance with all applicable laws, including the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, the APC Constitution, and guidelines issued by the electoral body.
“This committee is deliberately structured to address all legal issues and ensure that every process of the convention aligns fully with extant laws and democratic principles,” he stated.
Goronyo further disclosed that several subcommittees have been established to oversee critical components such as legal framework, dispute resolution, documentation, and the preparation of necessary legal instruments before, during, and after the convention.
Reinforcing the party’s commitment to inclusivity, he noted that a dedicated committee has also been set up to engage aspirants and promote consensus-building within the party.
“As a democratic institution, we are committed to inclusivity. We are engaging all stakeholders and aspirants to foster unity and build a strong consensus that will position the party for greater success,” he added.
The Minister highlighted that the committee is made up of eminent personalities, including Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Science and Innovation, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN; former Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema; Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN; alongside other respected legal practitioners and academicians.
He revealed that reports from various subcommittees have already been submitted and are currently under review to ensure a smooth and credible convention process.
Rt. Hon. Goronyo reiterated that the APC remains a law-abiding party, fully aligned with the rule-of-law philosophy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“The President has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to democratic values and the rule of law.
This committee is a reflection of that guiding principle under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
He further described the APC as a broad-based and inclusive political platform, open to all Nigerians irrespective of region, age, or background.
“The APC remains the largest political party in Africa. We are consolidating our structures and strengthening internal mechanisms to ensure unity, fairness, and progress as we move toward the 2027 elections,” he noted.
The Minister commended members of the various subcommittees for their dedication and the quality of their submissions, urging them to sustain the momentum and deepen collaboration.
He stressed that discipline, teamwork, and commitment will be critical in delivering a successful national convention.
The APC, he assured, remains fully prepared to deliver a credible, inclusive, and transparent convention that will further strengthen the party and its leadership position in Nigeria’s democratic landscape
