The World Health Organisation (WHO) and Kaduna state government have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that every eligible child in the state receives life-saving vaccines, as activities for African Vaccination Week 2026 commence.
To mark the week usually observed from April 24 to 30 under the theme: ‘For Every Generation, Vaccines Work,’ the WHO state coordinator, Dr. Musa Mahadi Wade, called for an urgent final push to reach “zero-dose” children-those who have not received any routine immunisation.
The coordinator highlighted key achievements in the state’s immunisation drive, including the successful vaccination of 4.2 million children against measles and rubella.
The official also commended the administration of Governor Uba Sani for revitalising 255 Primary Health Centres, describing the development as a major boost to healthcare delivery, particularly in rural communities.
Wade said: “Our mission is clear. We are deploying healthcare workers to ensure that even in the most remote wards, no child is left unprotected,” the coordinator said.
He urged parents to visit health facilities and update their children’s immunisation records.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) underpins the state’s immunisation success by providing technical leadership across all 23 LGAs, supporting strategic planning to reach zero‑dose children, strengthening disease surveillance and quality assurance, delivering field support to remote areas and driving innovation through digital and GIS‑based tools to ensure full vaccination coverage.”
Also the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Professor Bello Jamo, described vaccination as one of the most effective public health interventions, adding that it prevents millions of deaths globally from diseases such as measles, polio, tuberculosis and hepatitis.
