No fewer than 8,433 delegates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 31 governors, and members of the Federal Executive Council, are expected to attend the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scheduled for March 27 and 28 at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The convention will elect new national executives who will steer the ruling party’s affairs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, where preparations and logistics for the convention were outlined. Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, urged stakeholders to work collaboratively to ensure seamless communication and a successful event.
He stated, “A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians.”
The minister stressed the importance of strengthening internal democracy within the party, noting that members must uphold the values of unity and discipline.
“As party members, we must reflect a significant attribute of our president,” Idris said, adding that the convention marks a critical milestone in consolidating the party’s structures and democratic processes.
Meanwhile, APC Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, Mary Ikoku, confirmed that the party plans to adopt a consensus approach in selecting national leaders, though decisions on elective positions during primaries may vary depending on local political realities.
The convention is expected to produce national officers who will conduct party primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly elections ahead of 2027.
