Suspected bandits have abducted five residents of Odo-Ore community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, triggering fear and tension among locals.
According to reports, about 10 armed assailants stormed the community late Wednesday night, firing sporadically as residents prepared to retire for the day. The attackers reportedly moved through the area unchallenged, highlighting the absence of any nearby security post.
Among those abducted is Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, a prominent politician and school proprietor, who was reportedly taken from his residence around 11 p.m. The gunmen forced their way into his home before whisking him away at gunpoint.
Four other victims—identified as Hausa farmers—were also kidnapped as the attackers exited the community.
Residents suggested that the operation may have involved insider information, alleging that the attackers went directly to Yunusa’s residence without hesitation.
A senior police officer in the area confirmed the incident, though the Kwara State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement as of press time.
The attack has renewed concerns over growing insecurity in rural communities, particularly those lacking adequate security infrastructure.
