Bandits Kill Imam, Worshipper, Abduct Women in Zamfara as Troops Arrest Arms Courier
Armed bandits have killed an Imam and a Muslim worshipper and abducted several women, including married women, mothers, and young girls, in an attack on a village in Zamfara State.
TopHeadlines gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday night at Sabuwar Tunga village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, where the assailants stormed a mosque, some houses and carried out the attacks.
Sources said the attackers, in a brazen assault, targeted worshippers after prayers, killing the cleric and another victim before whisking away a number of women from the community. The bandits also attacked Gommanan village and kidnapped more women in Gabake ward under Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
Security operatives have since been mobilised to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims, with intensified operations ongoing across the affected area.
In a related development, troops of 1 Brigade, in collaboration with the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (ZSCPG), have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics courier in Gusau Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended while attempting to board a commercial vehicle en route to Shinkafi town.
A search conducted on him led to the discovery of a cache of ammunition concealed in a container of palm oil. Recovered items include: 270 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and 54 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly received the consignment from an individual identified as Abubakar Danfulani in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, with instructions to deliver it to TsaiKa village in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State.
The twin incidents highlight ongoing security challenges in parts of Zamfara State, where banditry, kidnappings, and arms trafficking continue to threaten rural communities.
Security sources said efforts are being intensified to dismantle logistics networks supplying weapons to criminal elements, while operations are underway to rescue abducted victims and restore calm in the affected communities.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.
