A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Tolu Bankole, has expressed support for the emergence of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, as the party’s consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Bankole said the decision by party stakeholders in the district reflected confidence in the governor’s ability to represent the people at the National Assembly.
He noted that the consensus arrangement followed consultations among party leaders and members across the district, adding that it underscored internal cohesion within the APC.
Bankole said Abiodun’s record in office, particularly in infrastructure development and economic policies, had contributed to his acceptance among stakeholders.
He added that the governor’s experience in both the public and private sectors placed him in a strong position to offer effective representation if elected.
The APC chieftain also said the endorsement could strengthen the party’s chances in the senatorial district, urging members to remain united ahead of the polls.
He further pledged support for Abiodun’s senatorial ambition, noting that efforts would be made to mobilise party structures in the district.
Abiodun, who is serving his second term as governor of Ogun State, has not publicly declared his intention to contest the senatorial seat.
Party stakeholders in Ogun East had recently adopted the governor as a consensus candidate, a move observers say could shape the political dynamics in the district ahead of the elections.
