warns against been dragged into partisan politics

Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN Benue State Chapter has denied endorsing a politician for any elective position in 2027, reiterating its resolve to remain apolitical and warned strongly against dragging CAN into politics.
Addressing the State Executive Council meeting of the association at CAN Secretariat in Makurrdi on Friday, the Deputy Chairman of CAN in Benue State, Rev. Jonathan Terwase Ugbede noted that CAN has not endorsed anyone and will not endorse any politician.
Rev Ugbede explained that CAN would continue to pray for the political class and the traditional rulers among other members of the society, adding that any politician that chooses to come for prayers would be prayed for without hesitation.
The CAN Deputy Chairman who disclosed that the primary responsibility of the Church is to pray, assured that the Benue Church would not go partisan but would remain committed and united in the service of the Lord who crowns kings.
According to him, a lot of people were agitating for elective positions who deserve prayers from the church but insisted that CAN should not be considered a platform for politicians but the church would never be partisan.
While calling on the Church in the state to remain supportive and prayerful to enable the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia succeed, the Deputy Chairman emphasized that the Governor has executed projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
He noted that CAN cannot stop any Christian from joining any political party and contesting for any position but assured the body of Christ would only come in to pray for those contesting for the various political positions.
Rev. Ugbede who appreciated the Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for the projects he has been executing that have direct bearing on the lives of the Benue people, called on the Benue Church not only to pray for him to achieve more for the people of the state but to also support him to enable him succeed.
The Deputy Chairman who also emphasized the support the Governor has extended to some Churches in the state, revealed that the Governor has sponsored the medical treatment of some members of the Church, a development that further endeared him to the people of the state.
In their separate comments, Bishop Innocent Uzua who spoke on half of zone A, Rev. Dr. Philip Gire for zone B and Pastor Dr. Adole Ejah for zone C of the state appreciated the development efforts of the Benue State Governor, insisting that they did not endorse any politician in the state for any position.
