Borno attack: Ndume laments killing of 6 soldiers as troops repel Boko Haram assault in Benisheikh
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has expressed deep concern over the resurgence of attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists following the killing of six soldiers during a fresh assault in Mussa community, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The lawmaker described the continued attacks as worrisome, urging the Federal Government to urgently strengthen the Nigerian military with modern equipment and improved logistics to effectively combat insurgency in the North-East.

The latest attack reportedly occurred around 12 noon on Wednesday when insurgents attempted to infiltrate a military formation in Mussa community. During the fierce gun battle, six soldiers lost their lives, while a woman was reportedly killed in crossfire.
Security sources, however, disclosed that several terrorists were neutralised during the failed infiltration attempt.
Confirming the incident in Maiduguri, Senator Ndume commiserated with the families of the fallen soldiers and reiterated the need for enhanced support for security agencies.
He said: “Our Nigerian Armed Forces are doing their best in fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are handicapped in terms of weapons.”
Ndume further stressed the urgent need for improved operational capacity for troops fighting insurgency.
” There is the urgent need on the federal government to Train, Equip, Arms and Motivate (TEAM) the military forces.”
The senator also emphasized the need for advanced combat equipment.
“Our military and other security agencies should have access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets and drones if really we want to end Boko Haram madness”. Ndume posited.
Despite the losses, the Borno South senator commended the Nigerian military, Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and vigilantes for their sacrifices and commitment in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
He also extended condolences to families of the fallen soldiers and prayed for eternal rest for the deceased.
Ndume prayed that Allah grant the fallen heroes Aljannatul Firdaus and comfort their loved ones.
*Troops repel Boko Haram attack in Benisheikh*
In a related development, troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled another Boko Haram/ISWAP attack in Benisheikh, Borno State.
Sources disclosed that the attack occurred at about 11:15 pm on April 14, 2026, when insurgents launched an assault on troops of Headquarters 29 Task Force Brigade.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat in disarray and preventing a possible overrun of the community.
According to military sources, no soldier was killed during the encounter, although three personnel sustained injuries.
The injured soldiers were evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment.
Military authorities also noted that the number of terrorist casualties could not be immediately confirmed, adding that troops had commenced exploitation of the surrounding areas to track fleeing insurgents and assess the damage inflicted.
Despite the successful defence, sources warned that the overall security situation in the theatre of operations remains calm but unpredictable.
