A former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms to contest for the Ogun East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections.
Daniel secured his forms on Tuesday, April 28, despite the consensus reached by the ruling party to endorse Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State as a consensus candidate for the district.
In a photo post shared on X, the former governor and serving Senator said he seeks to return to the Nigerian Senate to keep on with his push for a responsive representation of his people.
His words, “Today, I picked up my nomination and expression of interest forms as I seek to return to the Nigerian Senate, continuing my efforts to provide effective and responsive representation for the people of Ogun East Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
Recall that the party leaders in the state had earlier reached an agreement during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode to adopt a consensus candidate for the district.
During the meeting, party leaders, lawmakers and representatives from the grassroots insisted that the incumbent governor stand as the consensus candidate ahead of the polls.
However, Daniel who claimed he was not allowed access to the meeting described the process as a sham.
In a viral video posted shortly after the meeting, the former governor said, “We have been here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting since 10am, but surprisingly, we have been barred.
“We are told that we can’t enter,” Daniel said in the video which trended at the time.
