Doro celebrates Tinubu’s birthday with IDPs, delivers relief items to 300 households in FCT camp
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, Saturday visited the Kuchingoro Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Abuja, where he distributed relief materials and announced ₦10,000 cash support for 300 households as part of activities marking the birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The intervention, which targeted vulnerable families in the camp, also included the distribution of food items to all households, as well as beddings, mats and blankets for 50 elderly women and writing materials for 50 students to support their education.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Doro reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and recovery of displaced persons, stressing that humanitarian efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda are focused not only on immediate relief, but also on creating pathways for long term stability, resilience and self-reliance.
He urged residents of the camp to remain hopeful and resilient, assuring them that government interventions are designed to help them rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
The Minister also called for continued prayers and support for President Tinubu, expressing confidence in the administration’s ability to address national challenges.
Earlier, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, disclosed that the Kuchingoro camp, established in 2014, currently hosts about 1,500 individuals across 261 households, mostly displaced from Gwoza in Borno State and parts of Adamawa State.
He commended the Minister for what he described as impactful and timely interventions within a short period in office, noting that the support would reach all households in the camp.
The visit also featured the official flag-off of the distribution of relief materials, symbolically handed over to the female leader of the IDP community to promote inclusivity and community ownership.
In her remarks, the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Sharon Dimanche, praised the initiative and emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration in addressing the needs of displaced populations, while reaffirming IOM’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government in delivering durable solutions.
