Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday in Kaduna launched a major humanitarian intervention involving 100 trucks of rice and N1.2 billion in financial support targeted at vulnerable households across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The initiative, executed in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, is aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by vulnerable Muslim communities ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Flagging off the distribution, the First Lady described the intervention as a practical demonstration of compassion and solidarity with the Muslim Ummah during a period that underscores sacrifice, generosity and gratitude.
“As we approach Eid Kabir, this season calls for reflection on compassion and shared humanity. This intervention is designed to translate those values into tangible support for vulnerable families across Northern Nigeria and the FCT,” she said.
She disclosed that structured distribution channels had already been established through state-level coordinating committees to ensure transparency and effective reach.
“I am pleased to formally flag off the distribution of 100 trucks of rice and the sum of N1.2 billion. It is our hope that these palliatives will bring relief and comfort to households in need,” she added.
Mrs Tinubu noted that the intervention mirrors a similar exercise conducted on December 23, 2025, when support was extended to Christian communities in the region, underscoring the administration’s commitment to inclusivity.
She reiterated that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on implementing reforms that will deliver sustainable economic relief and long-term prosperity for Nigerians.
The First Lady also commended the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, for coordinating the programme.
In his remarks, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, described the initiative as a reflection of responsive and compassionate leadership, noting that it reinforces national unity at a critical time.
“President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady continue to demonstrate leadership rooted in service, empathy and national cohesion,” he said.
Governor Sani added that his administration is intensifying efforts to mitigate the impact of economic reforms through targeted investments in small and medium enterprises, youth empowerment, agriculture and security.
He urged citizens to remain patient and united, calling on religious and community leaders to sustain advocacy for peace, tolerance and mutual support.
