Access to potable drinking water remains one of the most important needs of many rural communities in Bayo local government area of Borno state. For many years, the area has experienced serious setbacks in development, largely due to the prolonged effects of insurgency and limited infrastructure. Among the many challenges faced by residents, the lack of safe and reliable drinking water stands out as one of the most pressing.
Water is a basic necessity for human survival and community development. When communities lack clean drinking water, the consequences affect health, sanitation, education, and economic activities. In many remote communities within Bayo local government area, residents often travel long distances in search of water, sometimes relying on unsafe sources. This situation places a heavy burden on families, particularly women and children.
It is therefore encouraging to see the recent efforts by the current local government administration under the leadership of Hon. Usman Habu Balbaya (Maidoki). His initiative to construct boreholes in communities such as Tuji is a commendable step towards addressing the long-standing water challenges in the area. The provision of boreholes not only improves access to safe drinking water but also reduces the hardships faced by rural dwellers.
Such development projects are exactly what remote communities need in order to thrive. When people have access to clean water, their health improves, productivity increases, and communities become more resilient. Efforts like the one seen in Tuji community demonstrate a commitment to grassroots development and the well-being of the people.
While appreciating this positive step, it is also important to encourage the expansion of this initiative to other communities across Bayo local government area which are still facing similar challenges. Many villages remain in urgent need of potable drinking water, and extending these projects will help ensure that more residents benefit from the government’s development efforts.
I therefore commend the chairman for this meaningful intervention and respectfully call on the local government administration to continue and expand the provision of boreholes to other underserved communities. Sustained commitment to such projects will go a long way in improving the quality of life for the people of Bayo.
