Governor Bala Mohammed ‘s defection to APC will affect Tinubu’s reelection bid – Group

A political group in Bauchi state known as Tinubu Continuity has warned that the state governor, Bala Mohammed’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could scuttle President Bola Tinubu’s reelection chances.

 Spokesperson of the group, Aliyu Muhammad, in a press release issued Monday, said the supporters of the governor “will back the party and the governor’s candidates at the state level but not the president”.

 He stated that the governor’s supporters are chanting a slogan “APC iya linta banda sama” (meaning APC only at the state level not at the top).

 The group condemned the national leadership of APC and the federal government’s “handling of politics in Bauchi state”, saying that original APC votes are at risk if the governor joins the party.

 “Original APC supporters are upset and Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s supporters are not with Tinubu. They will support him at the state level but not for president,” he said.

 Recall that speculation about Governor Bala’s defection has sparked uproar in Bauchi APC, with some leaders publicly opposing his plans. 

 The African Democratic Congress (ADC) was also wooing him as a party delegation visited the governor recently.
