Group counters Sokoto PDP, insists on Wike-led convention

A Sokoto-based political organisation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) advocating the re-election of former national organising secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, has strongly refuted claims by the state chapter of the party, distancing itself from the ongoing national elective convention in Abuja.

The group described as “false, misleading, and a misrepresentation of facts” a statement credited to the Sokoto state PDP publicity secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, which purportedly dissociated the state chapter from the convention scheduled to hold at the National Stadium, Abuja.

In a press statement issued by the chairman of the organisation, Dr. Abubakar Danmafara, the group stated that the position expressed by the state publicity secretary does not reflect the views of the majority of PDP members in Sokoto state.

The group stated that: “We wish to categorically state that Sokoto state remains an integral part of the PDP and cannot be excluded from such a crucial national exercise.

The attempt to distance the state from the convention is not only unfortunate but also misleading.”

Dr. Abubakar Dannafara further stated that hundreds of party faithful from Sokoto state are already in Abuja to participate in the convention, while stating their unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the party.

He added that the group and its supporters are fully mobilised and prepared to take part in the electoral process, particularly in support of the re-election bid of Hon. Bature as national organising secretary.

“The presence of our members in Abuja is a clear demonstration of our resolve to remain active stakeholders in the affairs of the PDP,” he said.
