The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar lll, Thursday advised Muslims in the country to look for the new moon of Zulki’ida 1447 AH beginning from Friday, April 17, 2026 and report its sighting to nearest district head for onward communication to the Sultan.
This was contained in a press statement issued and made available to newsmen in Sokoto by chairman Sultanate Council ‘s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs , Professor Sambo Waliyi Junaidu.
The press release reads: “This is to inform the Muslims Ummah that Friday being 17th April 2026 which is equivalent to 29th day of Shawwal 1447 AH shall be the day to look for new moon of Zulki’ida 1447 AH
“Muslims are therefore advised to start looking for the new moon of Zulki’ida 1447 on Friday and report its sighting to nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria , Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar mni CFR.”
Zulki’ida is the eleventh month in the Islamic calendar.
