The Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE has denied allegations made by a youth leader from Angwan Rukuba Community, Plateau State, Comrade Samson Chiroma, that troops provided cover for attackers who carried out an unprovoked attack on Palm Sunday in the state.
In a statement posted on X, formely known as Twitter, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer, said the allegation was false and misleading, emphasiing that the troops acted professionally. and swiftly mobilized to the scene upon receiving a distress call, averting further bloodshed.
According to Oteh, “four gun trucks were dispatched to the incident scene, and troops acted professionally on arrival, as confirmed by eyewitnesses and other security agencies”. The statement urged the public to discountenance the comment and support troops with credible information on terrorist activities.
The post stated that , the “attack, which claimed lives of innocent citizens, is being investigated, and the military has adopted strategies to apprehend the perpetrators”. It requested the public to remain calm and law-abiding.
The statement condemned the youth leader’s comment as “false, misleading, and unfortunate,” saying it could demoralize troops and cause disaffection between the military and the community.
The military assured the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminals and maintaining peace in Plateau State.
