NDLEA foils drug shipment hidden in beer trucks, arrests 5 in Edo 

Two articulated trucks disguising as conveying cartons of beer have been reportedly intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo state.

This also led to the discovery of 7,245 kilograms of skunk cannabis and the arrest of five suspected traffickers.

‎The seizure, estimated at N724.5 million, is said to mark a major breakthrough for the Edo state command and a significant disruption of an inter-state drug trafficking network.

‎Commander of Narcotics in the state, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who stated this Monday, said the operation was carried out along the Auchi–Abuja Road following 72 hours of intelligence gathering and surveillance by NDLEA officers.

Ofoyeju added that  the trucks were initially suspected to be transporting legitimate goods but were found upon search to be concealing hundreds of bags of cannabis.

‎He said a breakdown of the seizure showed that one of the trucks, with registration number OYO LUY 172 XC, contained 260 bags weighing 3,900kg, while the second truck, marked OYO LUY 281 XC, carried 223 bags weighing 3,345kg, bringing the total to 483 bags.

‎”The suspects arrested in connection with the seizure are Ibrahim Abu (29), Abu Abdullazeez (28), Jibril Jaminu (35), Andrew Moses (22), and Ganiyu Abu (21), all indigenes of Etsako East and Etsako West local government areas of Edo state.

“Preliminary investigations indicated that the consignment originated from Sabongida-Ora in Owan West local government area and was en route to Abuja before it was intercepted,” the commander added.
