Nigerians must unite to tackle insecurity – Suswam

Former governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, Monday stated the importance of unity and collective responsibility in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.

While speaking in Makurdi, Suswam warned that Boko Haram, which began in Borno state, has spread across the country, making it a national concern.

Suswam acknowledged the complexity of the insecurity situation in the North Central region including Benue state.

He praised Governor Hyacinth Alia’s efforts, adding that many of the measures taken are not visible to the public due to the need for confidentiality.

“When you are working on insecurity, decisions are often taken in secrecy so they do not leak. But I know he is doing a lot, and the president has given him significant support,” he stated.

He urged Nigerians not to rely solely on government action but to play their part in safeguarding communities.

“Those affected live in villages, they have families, and those families must partake in addressing insecurity. All of us as Nigerians must be aware and involved,” he said.

Suswam also reflected on his longstanding relationship with the incumbent governor and noted that their bond transcends party politics.
