Ogun State Government has again thrown its weight behind the Ogun Women Run, restating its support as preparations begin to take shape for the 2026 edition.
Now heading into its fourth year, the race is gradually carving out a place for itself, with organisers, Brussel Sports Management Limited, working hand-in-hand with the state to keep building on what has already been started.
Managing Director of the company, Yetunde Johnson, welcomed the backing, pointing out that the government’s role from the beginning has been key.
“We are deeply grateful to the Ogun State Government for the support given to the Ogun Women Run since its inception,” she said.
“That support has helped the race grow steadily over the years, and we believe the fourth edition will be even more successful.”
The State Commissioner for Sports also had words for the organisers, commending Johnson and her team for sticking with the vision of promoting women’s participation in sports.
He noted that the event is beginning to stand for more than just a run, describing it as a platform that not only encourages participation but also promotes healthier living.
“The Ogun Women Run is a commendable initiative. It promotes women’s participation in sports and encourages healthy lifestyles,” he said.
“The administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun remains fully committed to programmes that support sports development and community engagement across the state.”
He went on to highlight Ogun State’s growing reputation as a host for major sporting events, pointing to preparations already in motion for the 2025 National Sports Festival, the Confederation of African Athletics U-18 and U-20 Championships, and the West Africa Para Games.
According to him, the state is still open to more initiatives that can help deepen sports development and create opportunities for people across the state.
With that backing still in place, attention now turns to the 2026 edition, where both organisers and the government will be looking to build on previous outings and deliver something even better.
