Oluyede to Troops: Make Nigeria Safe at All Cost
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops deployed in the North West to intensify the ongoing offensive against bandits and criminal elements, declaring that Nigeria must be made safe “at all cost.”
Oluyede gave the directive during an operational visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he assessed combat readiness, reviewed operational deployments, and engaged directly with frontline troops.
Addressing the soldiers, the CDS commended their resilience, courage, and sacrifices in the face of persistent security threats, while urging them to sustain momentum and remain unyielding in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders. You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” he said.
The visit, according to a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, was part of efforts to boost troop morale, identify operational challenges, and reinforce the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace across the troubled region.
Oluyede assured troops of sustained support in critical areas, including welfare, training, and the provision of necessary operational equipment.
He emphasised that the military high command remains committed to strengthening battlefield effectiveness and sustaining pressure on criminal networks until lasting peace is achieved.
Highlighting the importance of joint operations, the CDS noted that air power remains a decisive component in the ongoing campaign.
He disclosed that steps were underway to enhance operational capabilities through the deployment of additional air assets and improved coordination across theatres.
As part of his engagements, Oluyede paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, where he commended the state government for its continued support to military operations.
He also acknowledged the role of local communities in the fight against insecurity, calling for sustained collaboration, particularly in the area of timely and credible intelligence sharing.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal praised the Armed Forces for their sacrifices and ongoing efforts to restore peace in Zamfara and the wider North West, reiterating the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies.
