The Ebonyi State Police Command has charged five suspects to court over alleged murder
.This was as the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, decried the rising wave of violent crimes in the state.
The CP made this known in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu.
The statement disclosed the arraignment of one Oforbuike Okoro for allegedly stabbing his mother to death.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect committed the act following his mother’s refusal to take him to a place where he believed he could acquire wealth-related powers, as well as over a missing bag he used for trading.
The Command further stated that four other suspects — Onyebuchi Eze, Eze Nwuke, Oko Odinaka Emmanuel, and Uchenna Ota — were also charged to court within the same period for alleged involvement in separate murder cases.
Expressing concern, CP Okafor described the development as disturbing and called on residents to adopt lawful means in resolving disputes.
“These developments are deeply concerning,” she said, urging the public to avoid jungle justice.
The Commissioner appealed to Ebonyi residents to report grievances to the nearest police station instead of taking the law into their own hands.
She stressed that murder remains a capital offence and a grave crime against humanity, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to accessible and responsive policing.
Okafor also reiterated her open-door policy, assuring members of the public of prompt attention to their complaints.
