The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to maintaining peace and order as political activities intensify ahead of party primaries in the state.
Speaking on behalf of all security agencies at the end of a security meeting held on Tuesday in Lafia, the Commissioner addressed journalists and stakeholders, emphasizing the need for peaceful political engagement and strict adherence to the rule of law.
He noted that while elections remain a vital component of democracy, they must be conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance, and non-violence.
He therefore called on political actors across party lines to avoid actions and statements capable of inciting unrest or disrupting public peace.

The police boss warned politicians against placing personal ambition above the safety and stability of communities, urging them to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters.
He specifically cautioned against violent protests, unlawful rallies, thuggery, and any activities that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
“The era of sponsoring violence, whether directly or indirectly, will not be tolerated,” he said, adding that security agencies are prepared to identify, arrest, and prosecute anyone involved in politically motivated violence, regardless of status or political affiliation.
He also condemned the use of hate speech, misinformation, and smear campaigns, describing them as serious threats to democratic stability and public peace.
Political parties and their supporters were further advised to operate within the confines of the law by obtaining necessary approvals for rallies and respecting the rights of others to campaign freely without intimidation.
Addressing youths, the Commissioner urged them to resist being used as tools for violence, stressing that their future should not be jeopardized for temporary gains.
He assured residents that security agencies remain united, vigilant, and fully prepared to ensure a safe environment for all, while guaranteeing a level playing field for political parties.
The Commissioner concluded by emphasizing that peace is a shared responsibility, calling on politicians, supporters, community leaders, and security agencies to work together to sustain harmony and stability across Nasarawa State.
