Speaking during an interview on TVC, in a discussion on relationships and spirituality, the clergyman addressed a common belief among some couples that sexual intimacy conflicts with spiritual activities such as fasting and prayer. According to him, this mindset often stems from past associations of sex with immorality before marriage.

He explained that many people carry this perception into marriage, making it difficult for them to fully embrace intimacy without guilt. However, he stressed that marriage changes that context, noting that “Sex is not unholy because a holy God could not have created an unholy thing.”

The pastor clarified that sex within marriage is not defiling but should be understood as part of the bond between couples. He added that while spiritual exercises are important, they should be balanced with marital responsibilities to avoid unnecessary tension.

Referring to biblical guidance, he noted that couples are encouraged to communicate and agree when observing periods of fasting. He cautioned against prolonged separation without mutual understanding, as this could lead to strain in the relationship.

He also pointed out that while intimacy may require physical energy, it does not diminish spiritual standing. Instead, he encouraged couples to approach both their spiritual lives and marital obligations with wisdom and balance.

Pastor Oye concluded by advising couples to maintain open communication and mutual respect, ensuring that both their spiritual commitments and relationship needs are properly aligned.
