Tristan Thompson Breaks Silence on Immigration and Sides With Trump: He’s Helped Our Country a Lot
Tristan Thompson is sharing his support for President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, saying he believes people who follow the legal path to citizenship should come first.
During an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast, the NBA veteran spoke about Trump’s immigration crackdown and explained why he agrees with much of it.
“What President Trump is doing, first of all, I love what he’s done so far for our country,” Thompson said. “I think he’s helped our country a lot.” The Canadian-born basketball player, who became a U.S. citizen in 2020, said his own experience shaped his view.
“I’m a firm believer because I have family members, and I have people that are immigrants,” he said. “I believe for those that do the thing the right way and get the papers, I think they should be taken care of first and foremost.”
Thompson moved to the United States as a teenager on a student visa before eventually playing college basketball and launching his NBA career. He officially became an American citizen during the pandemic.
He called the process “quick,” but admitted that not everyone has the same experience. “I think it should be case by case on the right people,” Thompson said. “I understand where he’s coming from, but for me, it varies depending on who the person is.”
The Kardashians are openly supportive of Trump but last August, Kim Kardashian criticized Trump’s ongoing ICE raids.
“In the news you hear, ‘Oh, it’s about people who have committed these crimes and they’re trying to help out our country,’” she said, per Variety. “But then you hear about all of the people who have worked so hard to build our country, and so many people that are such a part of our country getting affected. People I know. People my friends know.”
“You want to believe that there’s a powerful message in protection, but then you see that it’s not really happening like that,” she continued. “It’s really tough, but I think that we have to do what we can to protect the people that have really supported and built our country.”
