Troops Arrest Suspected Kidnappers, Gunrunners, Recover N2m Ransom in Nasarawa, Enugu
Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded operational gains in Nasarawa and Enugu states with the arrest of suspects linked to arms smuggling and kidnapping, alongside the recovery of a firearm and suspected ransom money.
In Nasarawa State, troops of Sector 2 under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with local residents, arrested two suspects over alleged involvement in arms smuggling and kidnapping in Karu Local Government Area.
Security sources said the suspects were apprehended at about 8:30 p.m. on April 14 in the Gidan Mutum Daya area of Karshi, following credible intelligence. Items recovered from them included ₦11,550, three mobile phones and other personal effects. The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the Guards Brigade Provost Group for further investigation.
In a separate operation in Enugu State, troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Operation UDO KA arrested a suspect and recovered a pump-action rifle as well as ₦2 million suspected to be ransom proceeds during a raid in Adani, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted at about 11:00 a.m. on April 14, followed actionable intelligence from a Department of State Services (DSS) operative, which enabled the tracking of ransom payments to a location about 32 minutes from the troops’ position.
Troops subsequently stormed the identified apartment, arresting the suspect’s brother. The recovered items are in military custody, while ongoing operations aim to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
Security agencies reiterated their resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements and improve security across affected areas.
