Troops Intercept Terror Logistics Couriers in Kogi, Foil ISWAP Attack in Borno
Troops of the Nigerian military have recorded fresh operational successes in separate counter-terrorism efforts in Kogi State and Borno State, intercepting suspected logistics couriers and repelling an attack on a military base.
In Kogi, troops under Operation MESA arrested two suspected terrorist logistics couriers along the Obajana–Kabba road in Lokoja Local Government Area in the early hours of April 20.
Acting on credible intelligence, soldiers of the 12 Brigade mounted a snap checkpoint at Oshokoshoko and intercepted a vehicle conveying the suspects from Makurdi toward Obajana.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and three AK-47 magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat. Other items recovered included mobile phones and identification documents. The suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Borno, troops operating under Sector 3 Area of Responsibility successfully foiled an attempted attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province/JAS terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area.
Security sources said the incident occurred on April 19 when the insurgents, mounted on two gun trucks, advanced toward the base through the Charlie/Delta axis along the Gajiram route.
Troops engaged the attackers on sight, forcing them to abandon the assault and retreat. Subsequent patrols and aerial surveillance confirmed that the insurgents had withdrawn from the area.
Military authorities said clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing to prevent any regrouping and to ensure the security of surrounding communities.
The twin operations underscore ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt terrorist logistics networks and repel attacks across multiple fronts in the country.
