U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, set to begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time today.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST.”
He added that he has directed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to engage with both sides in pursuit of a lasting peace.
“I have directed Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, together with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Razin’ Caine, to work with Israel and Lebanon to achieve a Lasting PEACE. It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let’s, GET IT DONE!”
The announcement follows direct talks this week in Washington between Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors, the first high-level engagement between the two sides in more than 34 years since 1993.
Those meetings, hosted by the United States, focused on reducing hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border, particularly those linked to Hezbollah.
This latest development forms part of intense American diplomatic activity aimed at calming multiple flashpoints in the Middle East.
It comes amid a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as continued tensions along the Israel-Lebanon frontier.
A separate phone conversation took place today between Trump and President Aoun. According to a statement from the Lebanese presidency, Aoun thanked Trump for his efforts to secure a ceasefire, while Trump committed to fulfilling Lebanon’s request for one as soon as possible.
As of now, there has been no immediate detailed confirmation or reaction from the Israeli or Lebanese governments on the exact terms of the 10-day ceasefire.
The move has drawn cautious attention, with some viewing it as a positive step to create breathing room, while others point to the long history of fragile agreements in the area.
