Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved the release of N4.289 billion for the payment of pension entitlements, gratuities, and death benefits to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers across Kaduna State and Local Government services.
The approval covers obligations under the Contributory Pension Scheme (Accrued Rights) as well as the Defined Benefit Scheme, reflecting the administration’s commitment to clearing outstanding liabilities and strengthening social protection for senior citizens.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, who described the development as a demonstration of the governor’s people-oriented approach to governance.
According to him, the intervention is aimed not only at settling financial obligations but also at restoring dignity and honour to retirees who devoted their active years to public service.
“Governor Uba Sani remains deeply committed to the welfare of our senior citizens. This intervention goes beyond the settlement of liabilities; it is about restoring dignity, honouring years of meritorious service, and assuring retirees and families of deceased workers that their sacrifices will not be forgotten,” he said.
Maiyaki noted that the disbursement is part of ongoing efforts by the administration to address pension backlogs and rebuild confidence in the system.
He added that with the latest release, the total amount paid by the administration since inception has risen to N17.796 billion, benefiting over 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.
The commissioner further explained that the government’s interventions in the pension sector form part of broader reforms aimed at ensuring fiscal discipline, improving transparency, and sustaining the state’s public finance management.
He assured that the Kaduna State Government will continue to implement policies that guarantee the prompt settlement of pension obligations while maintaining the long-term sustainability of the system.
He reiterated the administration’s resolve to uphold the dignity of labour and ensure that public servants retire with a sense of fulfilment, security, and respect.
