All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo state, Oyedele Hakeem Alao, Wednesday said the party needs a progressive-minded governorship candidate in the 2027 general election to win the poll.
Alao stated this while declaring his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election at the Alayande Teachers Resource Center, Samanda, Ibadan.
The APC governorship aspirant noted that Oyo state, “Is due for redemption. We were once the true Pace setter, the headquarters of democracy and the home of firsts. We must be that again.
“Our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, showed us in Lagos that when progressives pick right, the people benefit for decades. Oyo deserves that same fortune. I am an epitome of virtue, I keep my words. I honour elders. I don’t look down on anyone,” he said.
Alao added: “Like Asiwaju Tinubu, I believe in bridge-building, not breaking. Let us not sacrifice tomorrow for today. Let us not allow sentiment or cash to override our senses.
“The opposition is watching. The people are listening. History is recording. If we get it right at the primary, we will get Oyo state back on track. If we get it wrong, we all bear the blame and we all bear the consequences. I trust your judgment. You have led this party through storms before. Lead us right again now.
“Let us ensure a progressive-minded aspirant emerges as our governorship candidate. By progressive-minded, I mean one with competence who understands governance, not just politics.”
