Custom CG Adeniyi Honoured with NIJ Fellowship, Unveils Plan for Multimedia Centre

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has been conferred with a Fellowship Award by the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, in recognition of his professional accomplishments and contributions to national development.

The honour was bestowed during a special convocation ceremony held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Adeniyi described the award as both personally and professionally significant, reflecting on the foundational values instilled in him during his time at the institute.

He noted that the institution shaped his outlook on professionalism, discipline, and continuous self-improvement, principles he said have guided his career trajectory.

The Customs boss подчеркed that the recognition extends beyond his individual achievement to the Nigeria Customs Service, emphasizing that dedication to national service does not go unnoticed.

“As we render service to our country, some people are observing, and recognition can come at unexpected times,” he stated.

In a major commitment to the institute, Adeniyi announced plans to support the establishment of a modern multimedia and resource centre aimed at strengthening practical training for students. He disclosed that the proposed two-storey facility would house a radio station, editing and production suites, and integrated multimedia platforms covering audio, video, animation, text, and imaging.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Olusegun Osoba, described the occasion as historic, revealing that the conferment received the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Osoba further noted that Adeniyi is the first alumnus of the institute to be honoured with the fellowship, an award reserved for individuals with distinguished achievements.

“He remains a shining example of what this institution represents,” he said.

Also speaking, the Provost of the institute, Gbenga Adefaye, stated that the award reflects the institute’s enduring values of discipline, ethical responsibility, and intellectual rigour. He added that Adeniyi’s career demonstrates how these principles can translate into impactful leadership beyond the field of journalism.
