Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the projects being executed by his administration will serve as a lasting testament to his administrationâs commitment to good governance.
Governor Fubara stated this on Tuesday during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the Creek Road Market, a commercial hub for seafood in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The governor stressed that the project, like others, will continue to speak for the quality of leadership delivered to the people.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace and standard of work, noting that the intervention was carefully conceived to deliver long-term value.
Governor Fubara explained that the market project became necessary due to challenges encountered in executing road construction within the old Port Harcourt Township, where traders had extended their activities onto the road as a result of inadequate market facilities.
He said the situation significantly hindered infrastructure development, prompting the government to adopt a more holistic approach by constructing a modern and well-organised market that would accommodate traders and restore order to the area.

Today, l inspected the new Creek Road Market in Old Port Harcourt township and I am pleased with the steady progress recorded at the project site.

âWe had a serious issue with the Creek Road section because there were no adequate markets to accommodate traders, and they had taken over the road,â he said.
The governor disclosed that the project is structured into three sectionsâA, B, and C.
He noted that work has commenced on Section A, while construction on Section B will begin soon.
Governor Fubara explained that Section C required additional technical work after it was discovered to be a former borrow pit, making it unsuitable for immediate construction.
He said the area is currently undergoing excavation and sand filling to stabilise before building begins.
According to him, contractors have assured the state government that the entire project will be completed and ready for use by January, in line with the agreed timeline.
Reaffirming his administrationâs development agenda, the governor maintained that strategic projects like the Creek Road Market are designed not just to solve immediate problems but also to create lasting impact, improve urban order, and enhance the economic well-being of residents.
âFor us to deliver a project that will truly impress our people, especially those in the township, we had to build a better and more comfortable market,â he said.
