The Governor of Nasarawa state, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, was penultimate week conferred with the Life Ambassador of Education in Nigeria award by the National body of the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.
Speaking on the occasion, NAPTAN President, Prof. Boniface Ogbu Odeh, eulogised the Governor for his exceptional commitment to education, noting that his administration’s policies and investments have transformed the education sector in the state.
Prof. Odeh cited the Governor’s consistent prioritisation of education in the state budget — raising allocation to 26%, then 31%, and subsequently 36%, surpassing the UNESCO benchmark of 25%. He also commended the Sule-led administration for expanding access to quality education, improving infrastructure, promoting skills-driven learning, and sustaining the legacy of free basic education.
According to NAPTAN, Governor Sule’s interventions in teacher recruitment, school renovation, and girl-child education have made Nasarawa State a model for other states. The award, the body said, was in recognition of the Governor’s visionary leadership and steadfast dedication to human capital development through education.
In his response, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to NAPTAN for the honour, describing education as the bedrock of development. He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue prioritising education as a vital tool for empowerment, unity, and socio-economic progress in Nasarawa State.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel A Akabe, Commissioners and other top government officials, education stakeholders, and members of the NAPTAN National Executive Council.
