President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been confirmed as Chief Host of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), while Zambia’s President, Hakainde
Hichilema, will serve as Keynote Speaker at the global event scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 15 to 21.
The announcement was made by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management in a statement issued in Portugal by its President, Prof. Justin Green.
Green described the endorsement by the two African leaders as a strong signal of the continent’s readiness to host what he termed the “biggest, brightest and boldest” global public relations gathering.
“The buy-in of two Presidents from Africa is a clear indication that Africa is prepared to give the world a landmark public relations event in Nigeria,” he said.
The Global Alliance also confirmed the participation of top international figures, including the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, Melissa Fleming, and the Director of Communications at INTERPOL, Samuel Heath, who are expected to speak at the week-long forum.
According to Green, the forum’s theme, “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World,” aligns with ongoing advocacy for the recognition of responsible communication as the 18th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).
“We are happy that the Forum in Nigeria will extensively focus on this critical subject,” he said.
He added that the Global Alliance would provide full support to Nigeria to ensure a successful hosting of the event, which is expected to attract participants from over 126 countries.
Reacting to the development, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, said preparations are underway in collaboration with the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and other continental bodies to deliver a world-class event.
“We are working closely with APRA and other public relations associations across Africa to ensure that the continent presents something unique and exceptional to the global community,” Neliaku said.
The World Public Relations Forum is regarded as the premier global gathering of communication professionals, policymakers, and thought leaders, providing a platform to shape discourse around strategic communication, governance, and sustainable development.
The 2026 edition in Abuja is expected to further position Nigeria as a major hub for global dialogue on responsible communication and its role in advancing societal progress.
