President Bola Tinubu has approved a limited reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, relieving the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, of their duties.
The decision was conveyed in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, which also confirmed the appointment of their successors.
Details of the development were made public in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, Yomi Odunuga, on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, succeeding Edun. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
“He has been directed to hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who will now assume office as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy,” the statement noted.
In the housing sector, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending confirmation.
The directive further instructed Dangiwa to transfer responsibilities to the Minister of State in the ministry until the confirmation of his successor.
“All handing over and taking over processes are to be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026,” the memo stated.
Providing the rationale for the changes, Akume explained that the reshuffle is part of efforts to enhance coordination within government and improve service delivery.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as delivering more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
