The State Executive Committee (SEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue state, Wednesday criticised the emergence of the factional National Executive Committee (NEC), led by Senator David Mark.
He described the emergence of the Mark-led NEC as illegitimate and in violation of Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2026.
The SEC stated that provision of the constitution requires 21 days’ notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before such meetings can be convened.
Speaking at a press conference held at NUJ House in Makurdi, the SEC argued that the committee lacked proper authority and notification, rendering its decisions invalid.
They condemned the establishment of Membership Registration, Mobilisation and Revalidation (MRMR) and Leadership Teams at state and ward levels by the faction, declaring these structures unconstitutional.
It warned members that any dealings with the caretaker committee would be at their own risk.
The SEC confirmed that ADC Benue state has not conducted congresses pending INEC’s directives.
He noted the alleged suspension of several persons, including Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev and Hon. Terngu Tsegba, was not necessary since they were not members of the party at the moment.
In its statement, the SEC pledged loyalty to the duly elected state leadership chaired by Hon. Elias Adikwu and vowed to uphold the ADC constitution.
