Lassa fever kills 44-year- old woman in Ibadan   


 

Oyo state government Wednesday confirmed the death of a 44- year woman from Lassa fever in Ibadan.

A statement by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, said the Lassa fever case was confirmed at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

The Commissioner stressed that the 44- year-old female who was managed at UCH unfortunately passed away on the 11 April 2026 , while the Laboratory confirmation of Lassa Fever was received on 13 April 2026.

Dr. Ajetunmobi, noted that the state government, through the Ministry of Health, immediately activated its emergency response mechanisms following the confirmation of the case and the Incident Management System (IMS) for Lassa fever to coordinate all response activities.

She added that key steps have been  taken  to identify and monitor all contacts of the deceased to ensure that a safe and dignified burial is conducted.
