Tinubu congratulates Benin Republic president-elect Wadagni


President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Romuald Wadagni on his emergence as President-elect of the Republic of Benin, following the country’s presidential election held on April 12, 2026.

Wadagni, who currently serves as Benin Republic’s Minister of Finance, won the election with a wide margin, securing strong support from voters.

In a personally signed letter on Thursday, Tinubu praised the peaceful conduct of the election and commended the people of Benin Republic for their commitment to democracy and stability.

He described the transition as a significant milestone in the country’s history and expressed confidence in Wadagni’s leadership, citing his record in public service and governance.

Tinubu also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Benin Republic, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between both nations.

According to him, both countries share deep cultural, historical, and economic ties, particularly in trade and regional security collaboration within the ECOWAS sub-region.

The President assured the incoming Beninese leader of Nigeria’s support and pledged to work closely with his administration to strengthen bilateral relations and promote economic growth and stability in West Africa.

Tinubu concluded by wishing Wadagni success as he prepares to assume office, reaffirming Nigeria’s readiness to maintain strong diplomatic engagement with Benin Republic.
