Troops Arrest Suspected IPOB/ESN Commander Linked to Killing of Policeman in Delta
Troops of Sector 2 under Operation UDO KA have arrested a suspected commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a targeted raid in Ebonyi State.
The suspect, popularly known as “Calamity,” was apprehended alongside four other alleged members of the group in the early hours of April 21, 2026, at Nwofe in Izzi Local Government Area. The operation formed part of ongoing military efforts under Operation EASTERN SANITY aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the South East and adjoining regions.
Military sources said the raid followed credible intelligence linking the suspects to a February 26 attack at Okuku-Igbo in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, where a police officer was killed and another injured. The attackers were also reported to have seized two AK-47 rifles during the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the group relocated to Ebonyi State after heightened security pressure in Delta, where they allegedly established a new base to continue their activities.
During the operation, troops recovered items including a black handbag containing five mobile phones and several keys, as well as a motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects. All five individuals are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
The military said ongoing investigations are aimed at dismantling the broader network linked to the suspects and recovering additional weapons.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to restoring security across the region and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations.
